Membership Has Its Privileges.
 Members of an electric cooperative have some very special advantages. One of these is the refund of capital credits. During the week of April 17, more than $600,000 will be mailed to people who were members and received service in 1984. Capital credits are funds remaining after expenses are paid. Their refund to you is one of the advantages of being a member of Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative.
Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative uses the revenues that exceed operating costs as equity. These funds, called margins, along with borrowed capital allow Blue Ridge to continue to expand their service lines to growing areas, as well as add newer technologies to improve service. At a later time, as the financial position of the cooperative permits, the assigned margins are returned to the members who originally paid them in their electric bills.
Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative has made annual refunds of capital credits every year since 1983, more than $17.1 million dollars through 2007.
