Annual Meeting on May 11
Mar 1, 2009
Peter Drucker, who died in 2005 at the age of 95, was viewed by many as the father of modern management. As both a writer and a management consultant, Dr. Drucker enjoyed the highest esteem within the business community.
Dr. Drucker also had a strong appreciation for the cooperative business model. On more than one occasion, he observed that co-ops represent the “gold standard” in three important areas:
- Service
- Civility
- Accountability
I find Dr. Drucker’s assessment to be particularly heartwarming because he echoes my own view of cooperatives. As member-owned utilities, electric co-ops excel by striving to maintain quality in each and every aspect of their operation.
At Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, the crescendo of that quality emphasis occurs once a year at our annual meeting. That’s the occasion when members can interact with the many employees who work together to deliver dependable service all year long. The annual meeting also presents members with the opportunity to hear reports from management about the cooperative’s ongoing efforts to raise the service level even higher.
The Primitive Quartet
This year’s annual meeting is set for Monday, May 11, at the cooperative’s Pickens equipment facility. All members will receive an annual meeting notice which will be made a part of next month’s edition of Living in South Carolina. I’m also pleased to announce we’ve secured The Primitive Quartet as our headline entertainment that evening.
The annual meeting will be covered in much more detail within the pages of the April issue of Living in South Carolina magazine. In the meantime, I encourage you to mark your calendar for May 11.
Close on the heels of the annual meeting will be Blue Ridge Fest. The 2009 version of our charity fund-raiser is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. A total of 12 area human-help agencies are to receive funding from fest proceeds this time, and the community needs have never been greater.
Chicago’s legendary Jerry Butler
As always, Blue Ridge Fest will offer an economically priced, family friendly evening of fun, food, and outstanding entertainment. Topping off Friday’s Beach Night show and dance will be the legendary Jerry Butler from Chicago. Butler will treat the crowd to his many classic hits, including “He Will Break Your Heart” and “For Your Precious Love.” Be on the lookout for the May edition of Living in South Carolina for a complete preview of Blue Ridge Fest.
Cooperative employees, along with their counterparts at Blue Ridge Security Systems, are now busy with preparations for both of these month-of-May events. Nothing would please me more than to have you join us twice in that same week for two very special outings.
Sincerely,

Charles E. Dalton
